Abu Ubaidah, whose real name was Huzaifa Samir Abdullah Al-Kahlout (Abu Ibrahim), served as the spokesperson of Hamas’s military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, for nearly two decades. This distinguished and dignified figure was constantly targeted by the Israeli occupation forces. Several times, attempts were made to assassinate him, but each time he survived.

On August 31, 2025, Israel announced that it had killed Abu Ubaidah in an operation on August 30, 2025. Following this, Hamas released a statement asking the public not to pay attention to rumors. However, the familiar voice of Abu Ubaidah, heard intermittently as the spokesperson of the Al-Qassam Brigades, fell silent. Days passed, then weeks, yet the spokesperson—masked with his signature red scarf—did not reappear. The public grew curious, and the question on everyone’s lips was: Where is the brave spokesperson?

Name Remained, Face Changed

After a long pause, on December 29, 2025, the Al-Qassam Brigades introduced a new spokesperson, also called Abu Ubaidah, who issued a detailed statement. In this statement, the deaths of several Al-Qassam leaders were confirmed, including the martyrdom of the previous spokesperson, Huzaifa Samir Al-Kahlout (Abu Ibrahim), who had been killed on August 30, 2025 in an Israeli attack. The new spokesperson’s real name is different, but for organizational strategy, he is also introduced under the name Abu Ubaidah.

Martyrdom and Background

Huzaifa Samir Al-Kahlout had long been a target of the Israeli forces. Multiple assassination attempts were made, but he survived each time. Eventually, on August 30, 2025, based on available intelligence, the Israeli occupation carried out a lethal airstrike that destroyed the building where he and his family lived, killing all members of the Al-Kahlout family.

According to social media reports, an informant told the Israeli intelligence agency Shabak that Huzaifa Samir Al-Kahlout was inside a specific building in Hayy al-Rimal with his family. After this information, a military emergency meeting was held. Knowing that Abu Ubaidah was in a specific flat, the entire building was targeted. The strike killed Abu Ubaidah and all members of his household.

Two Decades as Al-Qassam Spokesperson

After the announcement of his martyrdom, the public understood that the individual who had represented the Al-Qassam Brigades for nearly two decades with extraordinary courage, wisdom, and composure had attained martyrdom. Huzaifa Samir Al-Kahlout formally joined the Al-Qassam Brigades in 2002. Due to his writing and speaking skills, seriousness, and insight, he was appointed as the spokesperson in 2004.

He issued his first official statement as spokesperson in June 2006, announcing an operation east of Rafah in which two Israeli soldiers were killed and one soldier, Gilad Shalit, was captured. From that point onward, whenever circumstances demanded, Abu Ubaidah became the voice of the Al-Qassam Brigades and released statements at critical moments.

Voice, Style, and Impact

Allah blessed Abu Ubaidah with a commanding, resonant, and intimidating voice. He spoke fluent and eloquent Arabic, often quoting Quranic verses in his speeches. His voice carried both the pain of suffering and the thunder of determination and majesty. He frequently ended his statements with the phrase:
"It is either victory in jihad or martyrdom."

After Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, his popularity increased dramatically. His statements were free of exaggeration or emotional rhetoric; he delivered facts in a simple and clear style. People eagerly awaited his addresses, even children imitated his distinctive style. Whenever he appeared, he wore the military uniform of Al-Qassam and covered his face with a red Arab scarf to conceal his identity. His voice, however, had already become his signature, earning him the nickname “al-Mulaththam” (the Veiled One).

Revealing His Identity After Martyrdom

After the official announcement of his martyrdom, the first photos of Huzaifa Samir Al-Kahlout (Abu Ibrahim/Abu Ubaidah) were released, revealing his true identity. Later, his brother gave statements highlighting different aspects of Huzaifa’s personality, life, and struggle.

Family Migration from Ashkelon to Jabalia

Huzaifa’s parents belonged to the historic city of Ashkelon, also the birthplace of the renowned Hadith scholar, Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani. Today, Ashkelon is under Israeli occupation. Like many Ashkeloni families, Huzaifa’s family was forced to leave their homes and ancestral lands in 1948 due to Israeli oppression and took refuge in Jabalia Refugee Camp, Gaza.

Memorization of Quran and Higher Education

Huzaifa Samir Al-Kahlout was born on February 11, 1984, and grew up in the narrow streets of Jabalia Camp. He memorized the Quran at a young age. He completed his primary and secondary education in UNRWA-run schools and entered Al-Quds University, Gaza in 2002 for higher education, completing a Master’s degree in 2013.

For his Master’s thesis, he wrote “The Holy Land between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam” under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Jaber Al-Asmi. The research comprised 645 pages, reflecting his intellectual depth and analytical rigor.

Family Life and Martyrdom

Huzaifa lived a dignified married life and was a father of four children. At the time of the Israeli strike, his wife and three children were present with him and were martyred in the attack. His eldest son, Ibrahim, was not present and survived. May Allah make him a true successor to his father.

A Voice More Powerful Than Weapons

The life of Huzaifa Samir Abdullah Al-Kahlout was not just the life of a single individual but a story of ideology, voice, and commitment. Rising from the narrow streets of a refugee camp, he became a voice that shook global conscience. His words carried not only the pain of oppression but also the awareness of resistance, certainty in perseverance, and insight into the outcome. His speech proved more dangerous to the enemy than weapons. He never revealed his face or name on camera but showed the world how to live for principles and die for truth.

His martyrdom made clear that resistance does not end with the individual; the name, voice, and message continue to inspire new generations. Today, the name Abu Ubaidah is not just a person but a symbol of determination, honor, truth, and sacrifice. History will bear witness that even when oppression reached its peak, there were those armed with Quranic verses, filled with faith, ready for martyrdom. Abu Ubaidah may have been martyred, but his voice lives on, guiding future generations.

May Allah accept the martyrdom of Huzaifa Samir Al-Kahlout and his family, grant them the highest place in Jannah al-Firdous, and make their sacrifice a guiding light for the Ummah. Ameen.
